City of El Paso Sets Oct. Date For 2023 Dia de los Muertos Parade

The City of El Paso Dia de los Muertos Festival returns to downtown El Paso on the last Saturday of October.

The day-long event will include the popular and highly anticipated Day of the Dead parade featuring a cavalcade of catrinas, catrins, and calaveras.

Contrary to the day’s name, Day of the Dead is more joyous than macabre. It’s a day of celebration that is far from a gloomy affair, and there’s no better example than what has become the largest Day of the Dead celebration in El Paso.

This year the City of El Paso will celebrate the Mexican holiday that honors the memory of the deceased on Saturday, October 28.

Although a schedule of events and other specifics has not been announced, it typically includes local performers, a special Downtown Art & Farmers Market, food trucks, free themed streetcar rides, and a float-filled parade in the Downtown Arts District.

The Dia de los Muertos parade -- second in attendance only to the Winterfest Lights Parade – routinely consists of catrinas, catrins, calaveras, community floats, and larger-than-life Mojigangas (puppets).

Organizations, businesses, and schools interested in being part of the parade can fill out an application online HERE. Halloween-themed floats and entries are not allowed.
