In the TV news world saying goodbye to your favorite local TV news personality is something you kind of have to get used to whether you like it or not! Why? Because when opportunity comes knocking, you gotta make sure to open the door before it closes and that’s the case with most local news personalities.

Earlier this month, CBS4’s girl power morning show anchor team of Salina Madrid and Amanda Guillen said goodbye to the anchor desk for new opportunities.

Salina was promoted to morning show co-anchor for CBS4’s sister station, KFOX14. She now sits alongside Jessica Gonzales and the rest of the KFOX Morning News team.

But for Amanda, her journey is taking her outside of TV, but she will still be telling stories of the community but this time it will be through the eyes of El Paso Children’s Hospital.

Amanda recently shared a post on her social media pages announcing that she would be joining the talented team at El Paso Children’s Hospital as their new Marketing Coordinator.

“I am joining the talented marketing team at the El Paso Children’s Hospital. In my new role I will help tell the story of the hospital through the eyes of the patients, parents, physicians and staff. I will also help the team continue with their mission of being a visible presence in the Borderland community,” said Amanda.

I first met Amanda when I was a fresh reporter at KVIA and she was a fresh intern going to UTEP. I called Amanda my fave intern when I first met her and even though she is no longer an intern, she is still my fave intern EVER.

Amanda began her broadcasting career as a weather anchor and reporter for KTSM and made the move to CBS4/KFOX14 and quickly moved up!

She is a person that is all about giving back to her community and she did that through volunteer work and also with the stories she told. While at CBS4 she had a weekly feature that aired every Monday morning. “Kids Doing Good” showcased excellence in our youth within the community.

Amanda is a mom and from one mom to another, the early morning TV news schedules can sometimes be very difficult. Amanda is excited that her alarm clock won’t be going off at 1 a.m. for work anymore!

"I am so excited to be on a normal schedule again. The early morning wakeup calls were life changing and very challenging. The schedule is one of the things I will not miss about my time in news,” said Amanda.

Although Amanda is leaving the TV News world, she is excited that she will still be able to continue telling the stories of El Paso’s youth, their families, as well as stories about the amazing doctors and programs at El Paso Children’s Hospital.

"I am so grateful to be apart of an organization that aligns with everything I stand for as a parent and El Pasoan. I can’t wait to grow in this role that I know will make a big difference here in our community,” said Amanda.
