One of the coolest, most fun events in downtown El Paso, and if you're an artist or a vendor, now is the time to get your application in to participate in all the fun.

The City of El Paso Museums and Cultural Affairs Department have opened the application period for artists and vendors. Chalk artists and musicians have to submit an online application by 11:30 p.m. August 27. Artisan and food vendors online applications have to be submitted by 11:30 p.m. September 3. You can only participate in Chalk the Block by applying through the MCAD.

Chalk artists have three categories – Showcase, Emerging, or Student. Showcase and Emerging Artist categories are for artists ages 18 or older. Artists in the student category must be high school age. Space is limited and there is a selection process that is highly competitive for artists, musicians, and vendors, so be aware that just because you apply to be a part of the festivities, you won't necessarily be chosen.

All applications must be submitted online. No paper applications will be accepted.

Chalk the Block is in its eleventh year and it is the largest public arts festival in the region. It happens on the streets of downtown El Paso October 12 - 14. For more information about Chalk the Block, call the Museums and Cultural Affairs Department at (915) 212-0110, or log onto their website at chalktheblock.com.
