As the number of positive COVID cases continue to rise in El Paso, Governor Abbott is allocating additional medical resources to the area in an effort to support local hospitals and health care workers.

The Texas Department of State Health Services as well as the Texas Division of Emergency Management will send personal protective equipment (PPE) as well as 75 medical workers such as nurses and even respiratory therapists.  This is not the first time staff gets sent to the area either as 169 people working in the medical field have already been sent to El Paso.

While the additional resources are greatly appreciated, it’s important to acknowledge that the reason for the additional help is needed is due to the rising cases caused by not everybody in the area taking the necessary precautions to protect themselves and those around them from coronavirus.  We all recognize that’s easier said than done but be mindful whenever possible and wear your mask and avoid any unnecessary large gatherings.

The past two days alone have seen over 900 new positive cases of COVID reported.
