VIDEO: A 9-Year-Old Got a Tattoo, and It’s Totally Legal in These States!
Parents: Would you ever let your minor child get a tattoo? Well, in Texas and Arizona it’s legal if you do in fact give them permission… No joke!
The internet is buzzing over a tattoo artist in Yuma, Arizona, who gave a nine-year-old girl a tattoo! While some are outraged, others point out that it’s actually legal in Arizona for minors to get tattoos—with parental consent. Yes, you read that right.
So let’s backtrack. According to the artist, this happened last year, but he recently posted a video showing the girl’s visit. Her parents originally brought her in requesting a neck tattoo of Donald Trump (yes, really), but the artist persuaded her to opt for a small American flag on her arm instead. A year later the young girl went back for a touch-up on her cherished tattoo.
Not surprisingly, reactions have been mixed on tattooing minors with one tattoo artist commenting:
“I wouldn’t tattoo anyone under 16, even with a parent’s consent. It’s permanent, and kids that young can’t fully understand the commitment.”
The artist tried to dissuade the family by quoting $500 for a tattoo worth $80, but it backfired—they happily agreed to pay. The result? A proud (and legally compliant) moment where the young girl walked away with a tattoo she loved.
Many parents chimed in, saying they’d never let their child get a tattoo, no matter how much they begged. (I’m with you on that one parents!)

But what about other states? Arizona isn’t alone in allowing tattoos for minors with parental consent.

However, some states, like California, prohibit tattoos for anyone under 18, regardless of parental permission.
While opinions on tattooing minors vary, this story proves one thing: when it comes to tattoos, some decisions are best left to grow with time—literally.
