Mount Cristo Rey

Although this year there will be no pilgrimage due to the ongoing pandemic, thousands of faithful in the El Paso and Southern New Mexico area usually make traditional pilgrimages up the mountain during Holy Week and in October. Completed in 1939, Mt. Cristo Rey is the sight of a monumental limestone statue of Jesus on the cross atop the mountain in the El Paso suburb of Sunland Park, New Mexico. This is truly an experience like no other and I highly recommend it to anyone out there who’s able to do the trek.
