5 More Restaurants That Have Stood The Test Of Time In El Paso
We're sharing five more restaurants that have stood the test of time that are still thriving today across the Sun City.
A few weeks ago, we shared six restaurants that have been around for decades, including L&J Cafe, Forti's Mexican Elder, Rosa's Cantina, Lucy's Cafe, Cafe Central, and The Tap.
After the article was published, we received a ton of feedback from listeners who shared other restaurants that have also stood the test of time.
So, due to popular demand, we've put together another list (part 2) of five more restaurants serving great eats for generations on the borderland.
True El Pasoans know that Lucky Cafe is the place to hit up for some delicious homestyle Mexican cooking perfect for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The diner was also where the after-hours party crowd would hit up when it was open 24hrs but has since changed its hours. And while Lucky Cafe off Alameda and Hammett St. may not be available 24/7, it's still a favorite among locals and has been for decades.
Kiki's Mexican Restaurant
Established by Paula Yardeni in 1976, Kiki's Mexican Restaurant has been the go-to place not just for locals but for celebrity chefs like El Paso-born Aaron Sanchez. Located in Central El Paso (N. Piedras and Mobile Ave), Kiki's is where locals meet up to catch up with friends over a hot plate of machaca, enchiladas, mole, and Tex-Mex cuisine.
A couple of blocks down the street from Bowie Bakery, another longtime El Paso institution, sits Jalisco Cafe, a hidden gem off E. 7th Ave. in El Segundo Barrio. Jalisco Cafe serves some of the best Mexican food this side of the border and is best known for its 'World Famous Menudo', made fresh every weekend. And after 60-plus years in business, Jalisco Cafe keeps the flavor fresh, which keeps us returning for more.
Gonzalo's G & R Mexican
If you've never been to G&R, you are missing out! The hacienda-style restaurant has been in business for over five decades and, to this day, is favored among El Pasoans, especially for its fresh salsa and daily lunch specials. Gonzalo's G & R Mexican: 401 E Nevada Ave, El Paso, TX 79902.
Famous for its rolled and often imitated tacos, Chico's Tacos has been an El Paso staple since 1953, expanding to four current locations across the city. And come July 4, 2022, the popular eatery will be celebrating its 70th anniversary after opening its first location off Alameda, which still stands today.
