24 Grandy’s Remain & One Of Them Is Still Open In East El Paso
There are twenty-four Grandy's restaurants left, and two of those are right here in El Paso, TX, and Las Cruces, NM.
If it's been a hot minute since you hit up Grandy's, you've got to head back for some of that satisfying country homestyle cookin' that continues to delight fans today.
My earliest memory of Grandy's dates back to when my cousins would visit the location near N. Mesa and Sun Bowl Dr. back in the late 80s for an order of their southern fried chicken, claiming that it was "the best-fried chicken around."
Those who've never had the pleasure of dining at Grandy's for breakfast, lunch, or dinner can expect to be catapulted back in time with its classic dining rooms and extensive menu.
Selections feature country homestyle cookin' that includes its famous chicken fried steak, fried catfish, shrimp, pot roast, and for dessert, their sinnamon rolls.
Fan favorites also include some of the best sides like mashed potatoes, fried okra, green beans, and buttermilk biscuits which are just as popular at its main entrée's.
And it's not just the comfort food that makes Grandy's so tasty and enticing - it's also the price point, especially with its ongoing weekly specials like serving up an order of its famous chicken fried steak or chicken with two sides, and a roll for less than $5.
Grandy's first opened in 1972 by two friends, Walter E. Johnson and Rex E. Sanders, in Lewisville, TX, combining casual fast food with the ambiance of a full-service restaurant.
And while at one time there were over 300 restaurants across America and overseas, today only 24 Grandy's restaurants remain, with more than half still open in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex area and one in El Paso, which is locally owned.
Today, the last remaining Grandy's in El Paso is still serving its delightful eats off Vista Del Sol and Yarbrough, while the other closest location is in Las Cruces off El Paseo Rd.
So, the next time you're in the area and craving some good old fashion country cookin', don't hesitate to visit Grandy's, where the employees are always friendly, and the food is irresistible.
