Officer Mike Garcia can be seen walking up to a car during the traffic stop on North Loop. He goes back to his vehicle, and during that time, gunshots can be heard, off-camera. Garcia gets on his radio and tells the dispatcher that he has been shot. The driver Garcia had pulled over can be seen getting out of his car to help the wounded officer. During the remaining 12 minutes of the video, more officers arrive on the scene to investigate the shooting.

The man believed to be the suspect in the shooting of Garcia was Frank Aparicio. He had no connection to Garcia. It is believed Aparicio chose Garcia at random, then Aparicio killed a woman and turned the gun on himself hours later.
