The mugshot of Aparicio is from a 2007 arrest, and it appears that arrest stemmed from a 2006 DWI case. Aparicio is said to have shot and wounded 2 year veteran EPPD Officer Mike Garcia as he conducted a routine traffic stop Monday night in the Lower Valley. He then allegedly shot and killed 61 year old Cecilia Diaz in a home owned by Diaz's boyfriend in far east El Paso. Her body was discovered early Tuesday morning by a man who also lived in the home. The shocking events ultimately culminated in Aparicio being found dead behind an Alameda business of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.

EPPD has not said what Aparicio's motives were in the shootings, or if there is any connection between him and Officer Garcia. Officer Garcia has undergone a number of surgeries for his wounds, but is listed in stable condition at Del Sol Medical Center.
