SECOND JOHN TRAVOLTA ACCUSER DROPS SUIT, HIRES ALLRED: The second masseur who accused JOHN TRAVOLTA of sexual battery has followed in the footsteps of the first masseur and dropped his lawsuit against the actor. He has also hired attorney Gloria Allred. Allred said in a statement yesterday she will be conferring with her clients to see how they wish to proceed, adding, quote, “We believe that the lawsuit should be filed in another court and, therefore, the lawsuit was dismissed without prejudice.”

WAIT, WHAT? TRAVOLTA ACCUSED OF MAKING PASS AT ‘GREASE’ CO-STAR???!!!: Check out the claim that bastation of journalistic integrity known as The National Enquirer is reporting today … the former fiancé of John Travolta’s Grease co-star JEFF CONWAY tells the tab Travolta once tried to , um, have his way orally with Conaway while Conaway was sleeping. Vikki Lizzi claims the incident happened at Conaway’s home in the ’90s. Conaway supposedly made the accusation in a note he wrote before a failed suicide attempt in 2006. Jeff, who died last May, was so upset over the incident he ended his friendship with Travolta.

Meanwhile … Star magazine reports Lizzi told her that Conway told her the marriage between Travolta and Kelly Preston is a sham. “Jeff told me that John and Kelly’s marriage was an arrangement,” she told Star magazine. “Jeff said that Kelly knows that John is gay, and that’s why she’s OK with it.”

R.I.P: DONNA SUMMER past away yesterday (Thursday) morning of lung cancer. She was 63. She’d kept her illness a secret while continuing to work on a new album. Her death came on the 34th anniversary of the release of “Thank God It’s Friday”, the movie that brought her to the peak of her fame. Her funeral will be held Monday in Nashville, her home since the mid-’90s.

One of my favorite old movies is ‘The King and I’ with Deborah Kerr and Yul Brenner. In 1999, it was remade, not as a musical, but as a drama with Jodie Foster and today’s birthday boy, Chow Yun Fat. *hubba hubba*

I fell in lust with Chow Yun Fat when I watched this movie. He was such a complex character – a king trying to deal with centuries of tradition, but trying to pull his country into the future. And then Anna shows up and throws a huge monkey wrench into the whole thing! Netflix this one, it is gorgeously shot, and the chemistry between Jodie Foster and Chow Yun Fat is white hot!

This is the final scene. I cried my eyes out!

This Weekend: Feast in the Middle East

The 46th annual May dinner and festival, a.k.a Feast in the Middle East, is this Saturday and Sunday at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Christian Church on the West Side. As always, all your favorite authentic Middle Eastern food – from gyros to Baklava to the crowd pleasing bake table — will be available. Adding to the authenticity of the event will be the always entertaining to watch belly dancers and live Arabic music scheduled throughout the weekend. Opa!

My Memories of 9/11

Donna Summer died today of cancer. According to TMZ, she believed that she inhaled toxic particles on 9/11 while in New York City. I was in New York City on 9/11/01. I was there for training. I had just gotten hired by JPMorganChase as a financial advisor. I was told that I was the first from Texas to be sent to NYC for training. I was supposed to be there for three weeks begining the week of 9/10 (Monday). Of course, everything change that Tuesday morning. I was in the elevator when the first plane hit. I was looking out of the 18th floor of 66 Water Street when the second plane hit the south tower. We were all told to go home, but when I got downstairs, choas was breaking out. All bus, taxi, and subway service had been terminated. I wasn’t going to walk miles to get to my hotel near Time Square so I decided to stick around the area. The plane took about seven floors when it first hit the south tower but by the time I got downstairs most of the tower’s mid-section had already burned. Paper was flying everywhere. It was snowing paper. That is what I focused on. Flying paper! Everywhere. I kept on walking towards the towers. Many of us were. I’m not sure why, though. Perhaps because I thought I could help others. Maybe because I knew I was witnessing history and wanted to get a closer look. I never saw anyone jump from the towers. I was focused on the flying paper. Otherwise, I believe, I would have high tailed it out of there! When I was about a two city blocks away from the south tower. I noticed many business people running in a single line around the corner and away from the towers. I also noticed a police officer who told me to stop and turn around. I didn’t know it then but he probably saved my life. I’ve always wondered what ever happened to him. Not long after he told me to turn around, I heard a very loud rumble. I was talking on my cell (back to El Paso) but I put it down to listen. I thought to myself, “another plane is coming”! The rumble sounded like a plane beginning to take off so it didn’t make any sense. My mind could not comprehend that the towers were falling. Everyone standing around me began to run. I was running and looking up as to see the plan as it approached. I didn’t see the plane and the noise seem to quite so I stopped running. I turned around to see towards the tower and thats when things became very surreal. A huge cloud of smoke (bigger and much faster than anything I saw on TV later) rushed towards us! Before we could even react, the entire area went completely dark. Mid morning turned to dark night. At this point, I’m thinking I not going to make it. I begin to appoligize to the person on the phone who had warned me not to get too close. I could not run or even move because I couldn’t see two feet in front of me. Then the smoke began to clear slowly. They were two young men trying to break a store front window (so as to get away from the smoke/dust). I began to help them but the stupid thing wouldn’t break. We threw a trash can at the window. It would only bend but not break. Three sobing ladies hovered around me and the other two men. We never said a word to each other. Suddenly, we hear a voice about fourty feet away but we couldn’t see the person due to the clearing dust. He kept saying “over here! Come over here!” We followed the voice. It was a manager of a gym. We walked into the gym lobby and began to raid the soda refrigerator for water. We poured the water over our eyes and face (full of dust). The entire time I was on the phone with the person in El Paso. I put the phone to my ear and ask the person what they were seeing on TV. The person on the other line was crying and yelling “the tower fell”. I asked her to repeat. “The tower fell. Get out! Get out” she yelled. I explained that I was OK inside the gym lobby. As I was speaking on the phone, a stranger tapped my on the shoulder. I turned around to see him and he pointed to my right shoulder. Their was six to seven inches of dust on it. I brushed it off. I returned to my conversation. The person on the other line now tells me “a plane has struck the White House and the Pentagon”. I could not believe this was happening. I looked out the gym lobby window waiting to see the sun shine threw all the dust. I no longer had any interest in being there. I just wanted to get out but needed to wait until the dust settled (no pun intended). I began to noticed all the other people did not have phone service. They would put there cell to their ear but no tone. They would then look at me with thier eyes as to say “please let me borrow your phone”. They never actually asked me but I could read thier minds. I asked the person on the phone with me to let me hang up so I could share my phone. She would only cry for me not to hang up. I have always felt guilty that I didn’t share my phone that day.

As soon as the dust cleared, I walked outside the gym and began to walk towards mid town Manhattan (Times Square). As soon as I began to walk, I noticed the “Wall Street Bull”. You know! The large bronze statue of a bull. It look like it was covered in snow! The streets, buldings, everything covered in grey snow. It actually looked beautifull. As I walked away from what would later be called “ground zero”, I began to notice people who were not covered in dust. People who witnessed the disaster from just outside the debris field. They looked at us with very trouble eyes. They asked all of us who were coming out of the dust if we wanted to take a shower in their homes. Imagine that! New Yorkers don’t typically ask strangers to shower in their home. Some people had cups of water and orange juice on a tray. They would offer the drinks to all who walked by.

Joshua Ledet Eliminated on 'American Idol'

On tonight’s (May 17) results episode of ‘American Idol‘, which determined the Top 2 for Season 11, Joshua Ledet was eliminated and sent home. It’s the end of the road for Ledet on ‘Idol,’ but don’t fret for him. He will likely be scooped up to an Interscope record deal courtesy of show mentor Jimmy Iovine as soon as he gets backstage and has a second to breathe.

Much like Adam Lambert, who performed on tonight’s episode and placed second during his season, this is not the last we will hear from JL.

Ledet was certainly a consistent judge’s favorite, grabbing standing Os with great frequency, as well as being an audience fave. He was a PopCrush fave, too, for the way he would rip off his jackets while performing. It was a charming move.

For his ‘Idol’ stage swan song, he sang ‘It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World,’ reminding us why he made it to the Top 3 of Season 11 in the first place.

With Joshua Ledet eliminated, that means Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips will go head-to-head and voice- to-voice on next week’s two-episode finale, which takes place on Tuesday, May 22 and Wednesday, May 23, respectively.

It’s going to be quite the battle between those two, since she’s the powerhouse diva and he’s the outstanding artist that pretty much owns the female vote. It’ll be interesting, that’s for sure.

I was saddened by the news of the passing of the Queen Of Disco, Donna Summer. Donna died this morning in Florida…of cancer, at the age of 63. I had the pleasure of interviewing Donna back in the day when she ruled the charts with hits like Bad Girls, Last Dance, and Love To Love You Baby. I still have that radio interview on a cassette tape, (now I’m showing my age) somewhere in my garage. I was star struck by the beauty of this Disco Diva, with the long flowing hair, perfect skin, and the most beautiful smile I had ever seen. Back then, being a brash young Disc Jockey in my early 20′s, I blurted out on the air if she would go out on a date with me. She replied with a sheepish grin, “Honey, if I wasn’t with Bruce, I’d make a man outta you..!!” (Bruce was Bruce Sudano, the leader of the Disco group Brooklyn Dreams who she later married). That was my Donna Summer. She was a “Bad Girl”…wink, wink. Rest in Peace.

JENNIFER LOPEZ IS TOP CELEB – IS SHE LEAVING ‘IDOL’???: JENNIFER LOPEZ tops Forbes magazine’s Celebrity 100 list. With $52 million in earnings over the past year, the America Idol judge unseats Lady Gaga, who topped the list last year. The singer sinks to fifth place this time around with $52 million in earnings, down from $90 million last year. The list isn’t based only on money. Fame, including the star’s presence on social media, is also considered. Oprah Winfrey came in second followed by Justin Bieber.

Meanwhile … several outlets are reporting that J. Lo is leaving the show that helped revitalize her career. A source tells Us Weekly that Lopez has “too much going on right now” and that her return to American Idol is unlikely. Sources for E! concur, telling that gossip site she’ll be done after next week’s season ends because she is “too busy.”

The rumor coincides with what J.Lo said to ELLEN DeGENERES in an interview this week. “I don’t know if I can go for a third year,” she said. “I miss doing other things. It really does lock you down. Which was nice the first year with the babies being [young], but now they’re more mobile. They’re about to go to school. I just don’t know. I don’t know.”

The masseur who dropped his sexual battery lawsuit against JOHN TRAVOLTA earlier this week has hired high-profile attorney Gloria Allred. She says, “We are in the process of conferring with him regarding the next steps, which he may wish to take.” The plaintiff’s original lawyer dropped him after he supposedly mixed up the date of the alleged incident.

Meanwhile … the lawyer for “John Doe #2″ now says the remaining suit could go away for the right price. According to attorney Okorie Okorocha, his client is willing to drop the matter for $250,000. “My client will settle for $250k to make this go away quickly and without having any further action being taken in this case,” he told the gossip site RadarOnline. “My client wants his life back and for that to happen at this point we would be willing to accept a settlement.”

AND THE HITS JUST KEEP ON COMING – YET ANOTHER MASSEUR COMES FORWARD: Yet another male masseuse is claiming to have had a sexual encounter with John Travolta, although unlike the previous accusers, this one says he didn’t turn Travolta’s advances down. Luis Gonzalez, a former masseuse at the Ritz Carlton in Laguna Niguel, CA, said he willingly hit dat back in the ’80′s. Gonzalez said he met Travolta in 1988 and was his masseure on several occasions before they eventually did the dirty. “I was in shock for about a week afterward thinking, ‘I can’t believe it! ROMANCE REPORT – MAKSIM REPORTEDLY DATING ‘DANCING’ CO-STAR: ‘Dancing with the Stars’ pro dancer MAKSIM CHMERKOVSKIY is once again dipping his pen in the company ink, so to speak. WAIT, WHAT??? ‘THE BACHELORETTE’ IS BOGUS???!!!: It’s no surprise to hear nothing’s real about reality shows, and that’s allegedly true for ‘The Bachelorette’. According to The National Enquirer, the men vying for Emily Maynard’s affection have all been recruited by show producers because they make good TV, not because any of them are actually interested in Emily. For instance, a close relative of contestant Kalon McMahon, who made quite an entrance Monday by arriving via helicopter, claims Kalon has no intention of marrying Emily and is still dating other women.

Donna Summer Dead at 63

Disco diva Donna Summer has died at 63. The singer passed away this morning (May 17), after a battle with cancer.

TMZ reports that Summer passed away in Florida. The site also states that she had been trying to keep the extent of the condition private. A source who was with Summer just a few weeks ago said that she didn’t seem near-death and that she was even working on an album and attempting to finish it.

Summer was a disco icon, known for her string of ’70s dance hits such as ‘Last Dance,’ ‘Hot Stuff’ and ‘Bad Girls’ and her songs remained popular for decades afterwards, especially at wedding receptions.

Summer enjoyed pop-friendly hits after the disco decade, with her ’80s comeback tunes ‘She Works Hard for the Money’ and This Time I Know It’s Real.’

The singer nabbed five Grammys in her career. She won Best R&B Vocal Performance Female for ‘Last Dance’ in 1979 and Best Rock Vocal Performance Female for ‘Hot Stuff’ in 1980, which is interesting in and of itself because she crossed genres with the wins.

She was also the first artist to have three consecutive double (!) albums reach N0. 1 on the U.S. Billboard chart and had four No. 1 charting singles within a 13-month period in the U.S. She also enjoyed 12 Gold-selling singles throughout her career.

Summer was the first African American female performer to receive an MTV VMA nomination for the video and choreography of ‘She Works Hard for the Money.’ She was nominated for two Golden Globes, winning one for ‘Last Dance.’

She was married to Brooklyn Dreams vocalist Bruce Sudano. They had two daughters together, while Summer also had another daughter. She also had four grandchildren.

R.I.P. Donna Summer.

Freeway Carpets Is At It Again

Back in the days before Facebook, Freeway Carpets took to their sign outside the business to air their viewpoint on the happenings of the day. Recently, they weighed in on the race for Texas’ 16th Congressional District race.

In case you don’t know which race that is, it is the hotly contested race between Congressman Silvestre Reyes and former El Paso City Rep. Beto O’Rourke. There’s been a lot of ugliness about the race including charges that Reyes has spent a huge amount of money employing his family, and charges that O’Rourke is just a puppet for a group of wealthy businessmen.

Freeway Carpets has never shied away from weighing in on controversial subjects in the past. As a matter of fact, this is what they had to say about the flap over health benefits for gay and unmarried city employees:
