A baby was attacked by a pit bull in far east El Paso, and neighbors say it's not the first time there have been problems with the family who owns that dog and two others.

El Paso County Sheriff's deputies and emergency crews were called out to a home near the intersection of Desert Meadows and Santiesteban around noon today. The deputies took the dog who allegedly bit the unidentified 11-month old-baby girl to Animal Services. Emergency crews took the little girl to University Medical Center, where she had to get 10 stitches to her head. She is in stable condition.

Deputies say the girl's teenage mother was leaving her grandparents’ home when the family's pit bulls got out of their yard. The mom tried to get the dogs back in the yard, but one of them bit the child on the head and leg. There were reports that one of the dogs was shot by sheriff's deputies, but it turns out that one of the pit bulls was hit and killed by a passing car during the confusion.

Neighbors say the dogs have chased children in the past, but when officers were called, the dogs were back in the yard and nothing could be done. One neighbor said he is glad the dogs are gone, however, only two of the three pit bulls are acounted for. The whereabouts of the other is not known.

It's not known if the family will face charges in this incident, or what will happen to the pit bulls.
