Texas: If you have the TikTok App, DELETE IT! Why? Because your security could be at risk once it’s gone from the App stores! *Insert dramatic music here*

The TikTok ban is expected to be on January 19th, and with just a week to go, 170 million U.S. users are left asking: What happens next? While nothing is set in stone, things are not looking great for TikTok’s case to block the ban. If it does go into effect, here’s what you need to know—and why deleting the app might be your safest bet!!

First up: TikTok will likely disappear from the App Store and Google Play.

What does that mean? This move would block new downloads and updates which means once it’s removed from the app store, there won’t be any further security patches so your security and privacy could be at risk!

Aside from the safety of it all, Eventually your beloved app will become a glitchy, security-risk-filled shell of itself.

Speaking of risks, let’s talk about your data.

TikTok collects SOOOOOO much of personal info—location, browsing habits, search histories—and critics worry about where it ends up. Without regular security updates, the app becomes a jackpot for hackers. Jake Moore, an ESET cybersecurity expert, warns:

“Phones with older versions of the app will become targets en masse.”

And don’t fall for scams either!

Expect an uptick in shady links promising to “save your TikTok account.” Avoid downloading anything from unverified sources—those can open the door to malware faster than you can say “For You Page.”

Bottom line: If the ban happens, your best move is to delete TikTok. It’s tough, we know, but your privacy and security are worth it. Stay safe out there, TikTokers.
