When Traveling Keep In Mind Of The Most Frustrating Texas Airport
Let me paint the scene: you just landed, you're off the plane for your layover & now you have to book it because you only have 20 minutes to reach your next flight.
I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me; nearly every time I go to visit family. It's even worse when you finally REACH your gate to find that your flight has either been delayed or canceled.
This is a common occurrence in airports all over the country; but this is ESPECIALLY common in Texas.
Last year 2 Texas airports ranked in the worst categories of delayed/cancelled flights:
- San Antonio's International Airport with 19.03%
- and Dallas/Ft. Worth International Airport with 20.77%. Someone who's traveled to Dallas or has had layover flights in Dallas, I can say that's accurate.
Lately however, there's a new contender for the worst Texas airport. It's not Dallas/FT Worth & It's not San Antonio...
Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport, or simply the Houston Intercontinental Airport, is regarded not only as one of the worst airports in Texas, but it's in the top 10 for the whole United States.
According to Travel.USNews, nearly 23% of flights are canceled & the 20% percent of flights are late. It's also considered to be the most dangerous airport in Houston. (Fun fact: that same article classified El Paso's airport as one of the BEST in the entire state)
Some people have even posted videos driving to the airport, showing how tricky it can be to even FIND your terminal. One thing that IS cool? You have a great view of planes landing & taking off.
Now the good thing about Texas is that we don't have many plane crashes occur in the state of Texas; since 1949, we've had about 5 major accidents with the last one occurring over 30 years ago in 1991. The worst accident being Delta Flight 191 that occurred August 2nd, 1985. So the most you'd have to worry about is making sure you reach your flight on time.
With people traveling again, I thought this was something to keep in mind whenever you're gonna be flying. So I highly recommend you arrive to the airport early, because the last thing you want is to be stuck in traffic trying to even GET to your flight...
