It’s not every day you see a twin-engine plane land on a street, but that’s exactly what happened in Victoria, Texas, on Wednesday afternoon. Around 3 p.m., a Piper PA-31 made an emergency landing on Mockingbird Lane and a feeder road to Zac Lentz Parkway, clipping three cars in the process.

Miraculously, the crash resulted in only four injuries. Three people were taken to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, while a fourth needed advanced care at another facility. The pilot, the plane's sole occupant, is being evaluated.

Deputy Police Chief Eline Moya spoke to the unusual nature of the incident: “This is not something we see every day. But we are glad that people seem to be OK, and they are getting checked out.”

Images from the scene show the plane split in half near a highway overpass, a sight that could make anyone do a double-take. Social media videos captured the moment the plane flew alarmingly low before touching down on the street.

The FAA is now investigating the crash, and while planes sometimes make emergency landings on highways, this one added a few extra dents to Victoria’s traffic.

We’re grateful this incident didn’t turn into something worse and hope for speedy recoveries for those involved. Let’s also give a nod to the quick-thinking first responders who undoubtedly turned heads while handling this unexpected scene.
