And the winner is…

The New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, Inc., announces the national Visionary Voice Award to New Mexico’s own Oscar and Tony award winning writer, Mark Medoff, and his film team at the Creative Media Institute for Film and Digital Arts.

The National Sexual Violence Resource Center bestowed this honor on Professor Medoff as recognition of national leaders who have proven to be leaders in sexual violence prevention.

Professor Medoff, along with writer Stephanie Medoff and screenwriter Amy Lanasa wrote the script after consulting with La Pinon Director Donna Richmond and manager Piper Coalson. He involved  NMSU-CMI film students Kyle Karges, Jacob Morales, and Yahily Rivera in the producing, filming and editing of the PSA. Professor Medoff directed a group of students and community members as cast, and solicited the music from Justin MacDonald, a professional in the entertainment field.

Nominator, Kim Alaburda, Executive Director of the New Mexico Coalition of Sexual Assault Programs, Inc. will present the award to Professor Medoff and team on May 1, 2013 at the annual luncheon of the Advocacy in Action Conference held at the Albuquerque Marriott Pyramid North (5151 San Francisco, NE, Albuquerque).

The video features vignettes portraying the primary message that perpetrators of sexual violence are often known to the victim.  Bystanders often have the opportunity and ability to stop it before it occurs. The vignettes portray bystanders interrupting child sexual abuse by an uncle, a coach and a neighbor.
