VIDEO: Texas Cattle Are Built Different
In a surprising display of teamwork, a herd of cattle near Crystal City, Texas, has gone viral for something few have ever seen—working together to chase down and corner a coyote. These Texas cows are just built different.

Local welder Russell Bookout captured the unusual moment on video, sharing his shock as the cows seemingly moved with purpose to contain the lone predator. “This is something I’ve never seen in my lifetime,” Bookout said as he filmed the scene on Dec. 23. The video, which has since racked up over 57,000 likes on TikTok, shows the cattle actively cutting off the coyote’s escape routes and pinning it against a fence in a feedlot.
Nature’s Bouncers: The Herd Mentality at Work
While cattle are often seen as docile, this particular herd demonstrated an instinctual form of group defense. The footage suggests that rather than running from the coyote, they turned the tables and took control of the situation—an uncommon sight even for seasoned ranchers. Bookout’s astonishment is clear in the video as he narrates the event, watching the cows behave in a way more reminiscent of a pack of trained sheepdogs than passive grazers.

Once the coyote was sufficiently cornered, however, Bookout opted to let it go. That decision sparked some humorous commentary online, with one user joking, “They did all that work and you just let him go?!” Another quipped, “That one cow looking at you like ‘nothing to see here, keep it moving’... lol.”
A Newfound Respect for Texas Cattle
The video not only entertained viewers but also shed light on the intelligence and protective instincts of cattle. While individual cows might not be known for their aggression, this herd showed that when working together, they’re more than capable of holding their ground—even against a predator.

As for the coyote, it was likely given a lesson it won’t soon forget—messing with Texas cattle might not be the best idea.
