Believe it or not, New Mexico has quite a vast video game history: we've seen an Alamogordo landfill has been the burial site of the ET Atari video game. There's also been quite a few game developers have been founded in the state. Including some in Albuquerque or Las Cruces like Ganymede Games or Subliminal Games

But this is strictly a list of video games either set entirely in New Mexico or with levels in New Mexico. We're not counting simulation video games on this list (because that would be too easy) and most racing games (with the except of one for food reason).

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater:

Fans of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series will remember there was a New Mexico level set in Roswell in the first 2 games. (Roswell would make a few appearances on this list)

The level would appear in Pro Skater 3 as well.

Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War:

Call of Duty fans will remember the later part of the story during Black Ops Cold War where you travel to New Mexico to eliminate a CIA agent. There would also be a multiplayer map called Diesel that's also set in New Mexico.

Half-Life:

Anyone who's played the Half-Life games knows that the Black Mesa Research Lab is set in New Mexico. That would apply to many games in the Half-Life series

Duke Nukem Zero Hour:

Duke is one to kick ass & chew bubble gum, and he did in his game Duke Nukem Zero Hour. It was level #11 where he would go back in time to 1848 and fight in Fort Roswell.

Wolfenstein II The New Colossus:

Roswell was one the locations set in the video game Wolfenstein II The New Colossus. It's a very interesting look to see a New Mexico in an alternate reality (you'll see what I mean).

Trinity:

One of the most interesting games on this list is the 1986 Commodore 128 text video game called Trinity. Dealing with all types of nuclear testing facilities, one is based on the real Trinity testing sight in Socorro, New Mexico.

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction:

One of the biggest maps in Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Extraction actually takes place in the New Mexico town of Truth or Consequences. It's divided into 3 maps: the Sierra County Hospital, Downtown & the Dam.

Target: Terror

It started life as a Japanese arcade game that eventually would find a home console release, you fight terrorist attacks at the Golden Gate Bridge, the Denver International Airport & the Los Alamos National Laboratory.

Vigilante 8

Growing up I loved playing the car combat game for the Playstation (or PSX) Vigilante 8 & its sequel Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense. The first game actually featured 2 levels in New Mexico:

There was the Ghost Town set in the fictional town of Hunters Wash

and the Oil Fields in the fictional town of Antelope Ridge

Mickey's Speedway USA

I assure you: this is NOT a typo. There was an old Nintendo 64 game called Mickey's Speedway USA... and yes... there was a course set in New Mexico. Here's the gameplay to prove it.

Honorable Mention - Fallout: Nuevo Mexico -

I put this as an honorable mention because it's a fan mod of Fallout New Vegas set in the state of New Mexico in the future. There's not release date yet but there ARE trailers teasing the game's release.

If you want to see video games that are set in Texas, you can find 10 of them here.
