UPDATE: The fate of V-Hudge following her rock-carving incident in Arizona has been revealed, and luckily for her, it doesn't involve a $5,000 fine or jail time.

According to The Associated Press, Hudgens has paid a fine of $1,000 in restitution for carving her and boyfriend Austin Butler's names onto a sacred red rock during a romantic getaway to Sedona back in February. The fee settles a misdemeanor citation the actress received for damaging a precious natural feature in a U.S.-protected forest. After receiving payment, the funds were reportedly used by a volunteer group to restore the defaced stone.

ORIGINAL POST (2/17): Perhaps inspired by the disrespectful behavior exhibited by Justin Bieber at a Mayan archaeological site in Tulum (which, by the way, got him kicked out), Vanessa Hudgens, too, has been accused of disrupting the natural order of things. She and her boyfriend reportedly vandalized a sacred rock during a visit to Sedona, Arizona.

Vanessa and boyfriend Austin Butler (former star of the sadly defunct CW show The Carrie Diaries) took a Valentine’s Day visit to Sedona this past weekend, where the couple took selfies together to immortalize their relationship in digital form. Judging by Vanessa's Instagram feed, things were going great until Vanessa posted a photo of what she and Austin likely believed to be an innocuous demonstration of young love: The couple had carved their names into a giant red rock and then surrounded it with a giant heart -- and they’re now facing a criminal investigation for it, according to a report from TMZ.

More specifically, the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest is allegedly looking into the incident/desecration. There’s apparently a federal law stopping visitors from “damaging natural surfaces or property of the United States.” To be fair, this sounds vague enough to apply to literally anything that exists within nature, so Vanessa's ignorance on the matter is understandable.

Should things go further for the couple, the pair could face up to $5,000 in fines and possibly six months jail time, though the latter is pretty unlikely. See a screenshot of the now-deleted photo over at TMZ.
