UTEP, Tech Fans Brawl in Parking Lot Melee Before Saturday’s Matchup

A fight presumably between opposing fans broke out in a parking lot near the Sun Bowl hours before the start of Saturday’s UTEP vs. Texas Tech game, leaving at least two men lying on the ground with apparent injuries.

It is not clear what sparked the melee in the parking lot of the Las Palmas Lifecare Center on North Mesa. El Dorado High School student Aaron Duran, who captured the free-for-all on camera and posted the brawl to YouTube, described it only as a “tailgate fight” between Red Raider and UTEP fans. That is all that is known about the altercation at this time.

The parking lot where the brawl took place is private property. Fans are known to park there for games and gather to barbecue, drink, and tailgate prior to kickoff.
