UTEP Adds Evansville’s Shamar Givance to Bolster Point Guard Spot

Joe Golding knew he needed to overhaul the guard spot for his UTEP men's basketball program. Days after signing Malik Zachery, the Miners added another veteran point guard today with Shamar Givance.

The former Evansville star led the Purple Aces with 13.7 points and 3.9 assists per game last season. He will give the Miners another player capable of starting at the 1 and playing big minutes next season.

The 5-10, 155-pound senior from Toronto played all four years at Evansville and he averaged double figures in scoring each of his last two seasons. The Canadian native is also known to have the best assist to turnover margin in the Missouri Valley Conference. UTEP not only gets a great ball handler but someone who can also but the ball in the basket. Givance shot better than 40% from the field during his junior and senior seasons at Evansville.

Also on Saturday, Otis Frazier III, a 6-6 small forward who spent his last two seasons playing sparingly at George Mason, announced that he was committing to Joe Golding.

The Miners now have two scholarships left for the 2022-23 season. Sources tell 600 ESPN El Paso that UTEP is still actively recruiting big men and they might announce another signing within the next week. This is how the team's depth chart currently looks as of May 4th:
