Alright, it’s safe to say that trick-or-treating is not quite what it used to be back when I was a kid. I remember my parents neighborhood being swamped with kids and parents walking around trying to fill up their cool candy buckets. It was honestly one of the fondest memories I have from Halloween as a kid.

Fast forward to me becoming a mom and being the parent taking her son trick-or-treating. We still did the good ole fashioned 2 to 3 hour walks around the neighborhood, but as my son got older I started to notice that not many parents were taking their kids out to trick-or-treat. It was kind of sad. My parents were excited to hand out candy one year and they were bummed when they only got about 3 kids the whole night.

I thought to myself, is trick-or-treating not the “cool” thing to do anymore?! *Cries in Spanish*  Then I came across a TikTok recently that made me wonder if parents were finding other, safer, ways to get their kids candy for Halloween: Truck-or-treats!

Welcome to 2025, where kids don’t roam neighborhoods for Candy Anymore

Apparently the thing to do now is for parents to roll up to parking lots for what’s basically Halloween tailgating. Yep, Trunk-or-Treating is officially the new spooky season trend.

From schools, to church’s, to businesses! truck-or-treats are something that has been growing and growing. People turn the trunk of their cars into cool Halloween themed booths and kids walk around in a safe area to grab candy for Halloween

This TikTok User Is Shocked BY The Trunk-or-Treat Craze!

A viral TikTok shows one guy absolutely shocked when his cousin said she’d rather go “trunk-or-treating” than good ol’ door-to-door trick-or-treating. Trunk-or-treating has been around since the ‘90s, but after the pandemic, it totally blew up. Think: car trunks decked out in cobwebs, fog machines blasting, parents in full costumes, and a one-stop candy haul.

It’s also super practical especially in areas where houses are far apart or in neighborhoods that don’t go all out for Halloween anymore. Plus, it’s safer, shorter, and easier to keep your little monsters from turning into sugar-fueled chaos goblins.

It’s 2025, Can We Get A Trunk-or-Treat For Dogs?!

Serious question though. We have trunk-or-treats for kids, haunted car washes, and AI costume generators but still no trunk-or-treat for dogs?! Come on, humans. Our pups deserve to rock their skeleton hoodies and beg for Milk-Bones, too. Someone make it happen.
