Texas Mom Indicted After a Water Park Visit Gone Wrong
It was a story that had El Pasoans judging a local mom for her parenting skills... or lack of parenting skills.
Back in the summer 2023 and El Paso mom, Jessica Weaver, went to Camp Cohen Water Park in northeast El Paso with her 3-year-old son, Anthony Leo Malave.
What was supposed to be a fun summer afternoon turned into a tragic event involving the death of 3-year-old Anthony.
According to local media outlets, Court documents reveal Jessica Weaver has been indicted on multiple charges following the heartbreaking drowning of her 3-year-old son, Anthony Leo Malave, at Camp Cohen Water Park in the summer of 2023.
According to the indictment, Weaver allegedly failed to provide the care and protection her son needed—something every parent is legally required to do.
Among the charges: Weaver is accused of not giving Anthony a life vest and failing to be in the water with him while he swam. For context, Camp Cohen’s rules state that kids under six must be directly supervised by an adult in the water.
But that’s not all. The indictment also claims Weaver allowed Anthony to eat without enough time for his food to digest before letting him back into the pool—a detail that’s raising eyebrows. Plus, it states she didn’t supervise him closely or provide CPR when he needed it most.
The heartbreaking story sparked heated discussions online, with many questioning how such an incident could’ve been prevented.
Many people who were at the water park the same day were quick to share photos and videos they had which showed Jessica in the background. Videos and photos shared showed her on her phone, snapping selfies, posting to social media…. All while her son was playing in the water.
Look, we’re all guilty of being on our phones when we really shouldn’t be. This story is so tragic and a reminder that even the quickest glance at our phones can cause HUGE consequences!
