Wiwynn’s New Facility Will Anchor Tech Growth in Socorro

Wiwynn, a global leader in cloud infrastructure manufacturing and testing, announced plans to open a state-of-the-art facility at the Socorro Logistics Center on 9220 Socorro Road. The move is part of a broader strategy to meet the growing global demand for advanced cloud infrastructure.

According to the City of Socorro, the company will create 514 new jobs, marking one of the largest tech job expansions in the region’s recent history.

Mayor Rudy Cruz Jr. called it more than just a business win, saying, “We’re building futures, forging innovation and putting Socorro on the map as the City with a Mission and a momentum that can’t be stopped.”

Investment Numbers Vary, But the Impact is Clear

While the City of Socorro reports a total investment of $152 million, El Paso County estimates the number closer to $92 million. The County’s breakdown includes $64 million in real property and $28 million in personal property assets. Socorro did not provide further financial details.

Regardless of the total, both the City and County agree this is a transformational move. The development was made possible through Socorro’s “Choose Socorro” initiative, along with collaborative efforts from the Borderplex Alliance and targeted economic incentive packages presented to both local and international stakeholders.

International Partnerships Are Fueling Local Tech Expansion

The recruitment of Wiwynn was not a lucky break. It was part of a calculated effort. County Judge Ricardo Samaniego explained that a strategic delegation trip to Taiwan helped cement the partnership.

“This project is the direct result of the County’s joint recruitment efforts,” he said. “Bringing them into El Paso County is a move where they can hit the ground running.”

Wiwynn’s General Manager, Joseph Hu, praised the area’s workforce and leadership, saying, “The Borderplex region is a natural choice for Wiwynn’s expansion.”
