Growing up, my love for wrestling was as constant as the Texas heat. Some kids looked up to superheroes or athletes, but my hero wore jean shorts, had a raspy voice, and delivered Stunners that could level even the toughest competitors. That’s right—Stone Cold Steve Austin.

Today, on December 18, the man himself celebrates his 60th birthday. Let’s raise a can of Broken Skull I.P.A. (or whatever you’ve got) to toast the career and legacy of this Texas-born icon who made wrestling the must-watch spectacle it was in the ‘90s.

A Stunning Start
Before he was Stone Cold, Steven James Anderson—later Steven Austin—was just a Texas kid with big dreams. He got his start in the late 1980s as "Stunning Steve Austin" in World Class Championship Wrestling, honing his skills and building a name for himself. He captured his first major title in WCW, and by the time he was paired with Brian Pillman as the Hollywood Blonds, Austin had already shown he was destined for greatness.

But greatness doesn’t come without setbacks. After injuries and disagreements with WCW management, Austin found himself unemployed. This rough patch became a turning point when he reinvented himself in ECW, laying the foundation for the larger-than-life character that would soon take over the WWE.

The Birth of Stone Cold
In 1996, the Stone Cold persona was born, and wrestling was never the same. With a shaved head inspired by Bruce Willis and a name that came from his coffee going "stone cold," Austin ditched his old monikers for good.

The Texas Rattlesnake’s rise coincided with the WWF’s Attitude Era, and his feud with Vince McMahon became the stuff of legend. Whether he was driving a beer truck into the arena or dropping Stunners on McMahon, Austin embodied rebellion. He wasn’t just a wrestler—he was the voice of fans who wanted to flip the bird at authority (sometimes literally).

Life Beyond the Ring
Austin retired in 2003, but his impact didn’t end there. From movies like The Longest Yard to his hit podcast, "The Steve Austin Show," he proved there’s more to him than smashing beers and delivering catchphrases. He even started his own craft beer line, because of course Stone Cold Steve Austin would have his own beer. He is also currently raising cats on his social medias and has quickly become a social media darling to many.

For me, Stone Cold was more than just an entertainer. He was the embodiment of grit, humor, and defiance, making me a lifelong wrestling fan. So, here’s to the Texas Rattlesnake—a man who taught us that sometimes, life calls for breaking the rules and cracking open a cold one.

A Peek Inside Stone Cold Steve Austin's Tiny Little Million Dollar Home

Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of the WWE's most prolific wrestlers of all time. The Austin, TX native was a verifiable superstar throughout the '90s and into the '00s. Even today he'll make an occasional appearance.

The beer drinking stone-cold stunner issuer has seemingly become a bit of a real estate mogul, he's bought, fixed up and sold a few homes around the country over the past few years. In fact, last year the 19-time champion put his 2,700 square foot home in Marina del Rey on the market for sale at $3.595 million.
