SISD Extends Fall Intercession Due To COVID-19 Numbers
The COVID-19 numbers in El Paso County have been skyrocketing and they are derailing plans for the Socorro Independent School District return from their fall intercession. SISD officials announced that they are extending the district's fall intersession through October 23. The change is being made to minimize the number of people who are on SISD's campuses. The change was made by moving the first week of the spring intersession that was scheduled from March 8 - 12, 2021 to October 19 - 23 of this year.
SISD officials said they knew there would have to be adjustments made because of fluctuating COVID-19 numbers in the County, but they also had to work within "very specific guidance and directives from the Texas Education Agency.”
Here's what parents need to know:
1. Schools and district offices will be closed during the intercession - There will be some staff and employees on hand at schools including Child Nutrition Services staff who will provide community meal service.
2. Meal availability - All children ages 0 - 18 will be able to get meals at a limited list of locations for the week of October 19 - 23. SISD is working out the details and will post those details soon on their website. If you need more information or help, you can call 915-937-0000.
High school athletics, fine arts and other UIL activities will continue as scheduled following UIL guidelines, but as with all our plans during this era of COVID-19, SISD reminds its parents, students, staff, and employees that all details may be subject to change as new guidelines are issued by local and state authorities.
