Listen to Prince’s Previously Unreleased ‘Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden’ from Expanded ‘Purple Rain’ Reissue
The wait for the expanded reissue of Prince's classic Purple Rain LP may feel a little less interminable after today thanks to the arrival of "Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden," one of the many previously unreleased tracks appended to the remastered original track listing.
The track, which you can stream below via Spotify, is also being made available as a free download for fans who pre-order the digital version of the reissue. The press release announcing "Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden" sums it up, "This release consists of 2 different songs that were merged together when performed live. 'Our Destiny' features Lisa from the Revolution's vocals, and 'Roadhouse Garden' features Prince's lead vocals and background vocals from Lisa and Dr. Fink. Both tracks were recorded live at First Avenue in Minneapolis on Prince's 26th birthday (June 7, 1984)."
"Our Destiny/Roadhouse Garden" serves as the second pre-release offering from the expanded Purple Rain, following "Electric Intercourse," which is also available as a free download with pre-orders of the digital version. As previously reported, both tracks are included among a healthy array of bonus material; fans who purchase the expanded edition will find two extra discs that collect previously unreleased tracks, alternate versions, single edits, and B-sides, as well as a DVD of footage from a complete 1985 concert.
There's still obviously plenty left for fans to hear for the first time, and with more than a month still left until the Purple Rain reissue arrives in stores on June 23, the label has plenty of time to whet appetites with additional pre-release tracks.
