Premiere Cinemas Added Speed Racer Showings Til April 30th
Good news for anyone who has been sleeping on this: Premiere Cinemas heard the call. What was originally just three screenings of the newly remastered Speed Racer has expanded to showings all day, every day, from April 24th through April 30th. El Paso has an entire week to show up, and we need to use it.
Why El Paso Needs To Show Up For Speed Racer
If you missed my full breakdown, here is the short version.
Speed Racer came out in 2008, got buried by critics, and flopped at the box office after the unfortunate luck of opening one week after Iron Man and ten weeks before The Dark Knight. By every Hollywood metric, it was declared dead on arrival.
Seventeen years later, Warner Bros. remastered it in 4K and sent it to 225 theaters across the country, including ours. Movies that truly fail do not get that treatment. This one earned it.
Underneath the neon chaos and the chimpanzee doing physical comedy is a genuinely moving film about a family holding itself together after loss, a small business refusing to get swallowed by corporate greed, and some of the most technically ambitious cinematography ever attempted in a mainstream blockbuster. John Goodman and Susan Sarandon anchor the whole thing with two of the most grounded performances of that era. Critics who originally panned it have since published full public reversals with their names attached.
It is a kids movie that will make you cry. Probably more than once.

Pack the Theater Before It Leaves
We are one of 225 cities in the entire country that gets to see this on the big screen, the way it was always meant to be seen. Not on a laptop. Not on a streaming service. In a theater, with the volume all the way up, with nowhere to look but straight ahead.
Showings run all day through April 30th at Premiere Cinemas here in El Paso. Bring the family. Bring a skeptic. Bring whoever told you Speed Racer was not worth watching.
Come watch us all be wrong together.
