Pink took the opportunity at the MTV VMA’s to dedicated her acceptance speech to her 6 year-old daughter Willow about the importance of being different.

On Sunday night at the MTV VMA’s Pink was the honorary recipient of the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award which recognizes performers for their accomplishments in music and film.

Pink decided to take that moment to share with everyone watching to talk about the importance of being different after her daughter Willow had shared with the rock star mom that she felt she was ugly because people confused her as a boy with long hair. Pink took her moment to spotlight how being different is actually a good thing telling her daughter from the stage, “Baby girl we don’t change, we take the gravel in the shell and make we a pearl and help other people to change so that they can see more kinds of beauty…”

That moment solidified my love for Pink not only as a musician but as a mother and human being who was spreading a message of acceptance and love for oneself and others. Way to go Pink!
