As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in El Paso, area hospitals and health care professionals are feeling the strain on resources.  This weekend, the number of available ICU beds in the area dipped below 10.

When compiling this data, the Texas Department of State Health Services determined that there were only 8 ICU beds available in El Paso, Hudspeth, and Culberson counties over the weekend.  While not all ICU beds currently in use are occupied by coronavirus patients, not having room available hinders the ability to treat those suffering as a result of this pandemic.

Some hospitals are even transferring their coronavirus patients to recover at COVID Units at Mountain View Health and Rehabilitation Center or St. Giles Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Not all news is bad though, the data compiled regarding the number of ICU beds available in the area also reported that last Saturday marked the first time in a week and a half that those with “severe virus illness” fell below 100.

Please continue to do whatever possible to ensure your safety and the safety of those around you so in an attempt to avoid needing an ICU bed in the first place.  Wear your mask, practice social distancing, avoid large gathering, and disinfect any common areas that you occupy.
