New Penguin Exhibit Is Coming To The El Paso Zoo
Lions And Tigers And PENGUINS, Oh My! The El Paso Zoo is bringing penguins to the Southwest for their newest state-of-the-art penguin exhibit.
Now, I know what you’re thinking. Penguins? In the desert?! Well, the El Paso Zoo chose to bring in Magellanic penguins for this new exhibit and these types of penguins will fit in just perfectly here in the desert southwest because they are from the warm and temperate coastal regions of South America including Argentina, Chile, and the Falkland Islands.
The new penguin exhibit will be taking over the area the wolves once called home.
The state-of-the-art penguin exhibit will incorporate a rocky coast that is meant to serve as a “Natural habitat” setting for the penguins. It will include an underwater viewing experience for visitors to enjoy as well as an outdoor stadium for viewing.
The new penguin exhibit is just one of many new projects that have come out of the 2012 Quality of Life Bond.
The most recent complete projects at the zoo include the new Wildlife Theater, The Chihuahuan Desert exhibit to name a few.
The zoo is hoping to add even MORE exhibits in the coming years including… FLAMINGOS!
Here’s a look at what you can expect from this new Penguin exhibit:
