Mural Unveiling Bringing Pachucos & Lowriders To S. Central EP This Wknd
South Central El Paso will be poppin’ this weekend with Pachucos and Lowriders at the official unveiling of the new CHUCO Mural by Tino Ortega at Chuco Relic.
This weekend, celebrate art, culture, and community at the CHUCO mural unveiling, with Pachucos and lowriders at this free family-friendly event hosted by Chuco Relic.
Tino Ortega is the incredibly talented artist behind these interactive and lifelike 3D murals that are spotted all over town.
The newest addition to the series is the CHUCO mural aptly located at Chuco Relic off the Gateway. Ortega's latest mural was inspired by El Chuco, one of El Paso's most popular nicknames. El Chuco or Chuco Town is a shortened version of Pachuco, referring to the Pachuco counterculture in El Paso that emerged in the late 1930s.
Ortega says that he chose the Chuco Relic wall in central because it was near the Lincoln Park murals and because it doesn't get "any more El Paso" than Chuco Relic.
Chuco Relic will be hosting the mural unveiling with a tribute to the old and new El Paso, bridging both the past and present cultures. This Saturday, El Pasoans are invited to meet the artist and take a step back in time with a picture-perfect mural reveal.
The afternoon will also feature local Zoot Suit enthusiast group Chuco Pachucos, old-school lowriders, and a chance to score limited edition Pachuco tees ranging from $5 to $15.
This weekend, head out and support local while learning more about El Chuco’s colorful past and how it continues to influence our present and future lifestyle and culture.
