Miner Football Games Cancelled By COVID-19 Get Rescheduled
With COVID-19 numbers on the rise all over the country and especially here in El Paso, it's no surprise when things like sporting events get canceled or postponed. Over the past few weeks, football games against the UTEP Miners have been canceled due to the COVID-19 numbers on either the team UTEP is playing or because of the numbers in El Paso. It wasn't exactly made clear if those games would be rescheduled but now we know that they are going to be played.
The postponed home football games against Southern Miss and North Texas have been rescheduled. Officials with both universities say that the Miners will host Southern Miss on December 5. The game will be streamed on ESPN Networks. That makes up for the game that was scheduled to be played on October 17.
The game that was supposed to have been played on Halloween at the Sun Bowl but was postponed after the skyrocketing COVID-19 numbers in El Paso has also been rescheduled. UTEP officials were none too pleased about the game getting canceled because they said that UTEP was not a hot spot. That game against North Texas will be played on December 12, but unlike the original game, will not be played at the Sun Bowl. The game, instead, will be streamed on ESPN Networks just like the one against Southern Miss.
Because these are division games, Conference USA says those games will take precedent for the two makeup dates. There is no word yet on whether the canceled UTEP vs. Florida International game will be rescheduled.
