More tragic news regarding the family of mayor-elect Oscar Leeser due to the COVID-19 crisis gripping the country.

Only a few weeks after mayor-elect Oscar Leeser announced the death of his beloved mother, Rhoberta Leeser, the incoming mayor has announced he lost his brother now too from the novel coronavirus.

On November 13th, Oscar Leeser made the announcement that his mother lost her battle against the coronavirus.

Now, this week, the incoming Mayor's Facebook page said his brother George Leeser passed away from the virus last week:

"With a heavy heart we are sad to share with you that my brother George lost his battle with Covid on December 24th. Please keep his children and grandchildren in your prayers."

According to KVIA News, a private family funeral will take place at Sunset Funeral Home-West. Sadly, the Leeser family's losses are not the only ones happening in the Borderland.

To date, there are 1,426 deaths in the County of El Paso from COVID-19 according to the El Paso County website with hundreds more still under investigation. While the number of new COVID cases in the area have continued to decline, residents are still being urged to abide by the CDC's guidelines. Remember to stay 6-feet apart from people not living in your household, wear a mask while in public places, and stay home as much as possible.

You can find more information on how to keep yourself and your loved ones safe at the CDC website.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Leeser family during this difficult time.
