El Paso has produced a lot of talent, but few bands carry the city's name the way The Mars Volta does. The prog-rock legends born right here in the 915 just announced they are bringing the show home, with a concert set for September 10 at the Abraham Chavez Theater.

For anyone who grew up listening to Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Cedric Bixler-Zavala push the boundaries of what rock music could sound like, this is the show you have been waiting for. The Mars Volta built one of the most devoted cult followings in modern music on the strength of albums like "De-Loused in the Comatorium" and "Frances the Mute," earning a reputation for wild, unpredictable live performances that you simply have to see to believe. These are not shows that get described as ordinary.

And they are coming home to El Paso to do it.
