Many big businesses hold Independence Day sales on the 4th of July, since buying things is a very American thing to do. During these times of tragedy, protests, and division in communities, many are wondering how will Americans celebrate Independence Day? Some are even asking, should we even celebrate this year?

Of course, many people will set off fireworks and host BBQs, while others may use the day to reflect on what this country has become.

On June 19th, one local El Paso beauty shop is hosting a Juneteenth sale, instead of the usual Independence Day sale. If you do not know what Juneteenth is, according to NBCNews.com it is the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. According to Juneteenth.com, "Dating back to 1865, it was on June 19th that the Union soldiers, led by Major General Gordon Granger, landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and that the enslaved were now free."

Now, not only will Bomb Beauty Products educate their customers on Juneteenth, they will be donated 50% of their proceeds from their Friday sales to The Okra Project. The Okra Project is a collective that strives to help provide healthy meals to Black Trans people who struggle with food insecurity.

As many people take to the streets, remember that you can make a change in what you say, do and who you support during these times. Continue to educate yourself on America's history, so that we do not repeat the tragic times.
