El Paso’s Top 5 Favorite Mascots Ranked

El Paso businesses, schools, teams and the city of El Paso itself has a number of cool mascots roaming around. Here are the top 5 ...

Throughout the area, you'll find several mascots and Las Cruces has at least one that I know of - Paydirt Pete's arch rival, Pistol Pete. (He even copied Paydirt's name, no wonder there's tension there.) I did an informal survey and here's how the top 5 shaped up.

There are several, well known mascots roaming around El Paso including Amigo Man, (who just turned 50), Paydirt Pete, (UTEP), Chico Chihuahua, (Chihuahuas), Spike, (Rhinos), Ozzy, (Locomotive), Biiip & Rue, (El Paso Children's Hospital), Gus & Goldie, (El Paso Parks And Recreation), just to name some of the best known ones.

To rank the top 5, I used a highly scientific, well researched, meticulously detailed formula, guaranteed to be as accurate as My Cousin Vinnie's torque wrench. (NSFW language.)

The method? I asked about 10 - 15 people I saw over the weekend and then skewed it my way a little.

After I narrowed it down to 5, I asked the on air staff, (KLAQ, KSII and ESPN 600), to rank them. Here's how that came out:

• Nico Something - (He wasn't here, go figure.)
• Kevin Vargas - Chico, Amigo, Spike, Paydirt, Ozzy
• Daniel Paulus - Spike, Chico, Paydirt, Ozzy, Amigo
• Iris Lopez - Chico, Paydirt, Amigo, Ozzy, Spike

As for me, it was Chico ... even though he did try and steal my Harley once ... Ozzy, (mostly because he's a bat named Ozzy. Get it? Soccer, isn't really my thing.), Spike, Amigo and then Paydirt.

The Final 5

Chico is, hands ... well, paws, actually ... down the MVM. (Most Valuable Mascot)

Paydirt Pete gets 2nd place. Ozzy, Spike and Amigo Man are running neck and neck so I'll give the advantage to Amigo Man. As for Spike and Ozzy, only Spike got #1 with anybody, so he gets the edge. Final score:
