Dogster.com released the list of the top 10 dog breeds in Texas and the first one may surprise you since it's a breed that not everyone has heard of.

The list posted by dogster.com doesn't list the Texas 10 in any particular order so number 1 may not be the absolute most popular breed in the lone star state, it's just the one they listed first.

It's also the official state dog of Texas.

I love dogs and have had many throughout my life. They're fun, protective and can make you laugh on your worst day. Especially if you have a pool, they're hysterical.

Mine have all been rescues and with the exception of one that a friend was forced to give up, they've all been mixed breeds. The only pure breed was a super energetic nut case Boxer. Best dog ever but they're hell on squeak toys.

LOOK: Here Are 30 Foods That Are Poisonous to Dogs

To prepare yourself for a potential incident, always keep your vet's phone number handy, along with an after-hours clinic you can call in an emergency. The ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center also has a hotline you can call at (888) 426-4435 for advice.

Even with all of these resources, however, the best cure for food poisoning is preventing it in the first place. To give you an idea of what human foods can be dangerous, Stacker has put together a slideshow of 30 common foods to avoid. Take a look to see if there are any that surprise you.
