Somebody call a cop! Colorado police finally caught on to how cool Texas police are and stole their idea.

Police all over the country have pretty strict rules when it comes to uniforms, plain clothes and undercover officers being the exceptions. Fashion forces change in everything though, even uniforms and official gear as new stuff becomes available.

What Did Colorado Police Change About Their Uniform?

Safety really dictates on duty fashion the most, right down to, (or, UP to), their hats. Colorado cops, wanting a new look ... and more cool points ... adopted a Texas look. Those copycats wear Cowboy hats now.

Newer, more resilient products and items are usually what dictate official uniform changes but Colorado's new look is by no means new. It's been a thing for Texas Poh - Poh since 1950 and goes back even farther for Texas Rangers.

Which Texas Cops Wear Cowboy Hats?

It's hard to say which, (or how many), Texas officers can rock a Stetson on duty but, post "wild west", (once uniforms started getting "standardized"), I'm pretty sure it was the Texas Rangers who first declined to wear modern "lids".

Texas state troopers wear 'em too ... and the ladies love it.

In 1950, the Cowboy hat game was opened up to others with certain conditions. There have always ben rules for wearing a cowboy hat, but the cops have a few extra rules. For example, in New Braunfels:

  • Officers who choose to wear a cowboy hat must buy it themselves.
  • The hat must have a 4 ½-inch brim with a cattleman crown.
  • “Natural color straw hats with a black hat band are authorized for hot weather — no palm hats,” Ferguson said. “And silverbelly felt hats are authorized for winter.”

This Cowboy Hat house was another vision of artist and builder Dan Phillips, after building a giant Cowboy Boot hat he built the Cowboy Hat to go along with the boot. This house is currently under contract and is a private home.

The home was listed by Theresa Frazier/Heart of Texas Real Estate & MGMT. Co./HAR.com, but is currently not on the market.
