Ozzy Osbourne Left El Paso With Legendary Rock Memories

There are rock stars and then there's Ozzy Osbourne.

One year after the Prince of Darkness left us, it's hard not to think about all the chaos, unforgettable concerts and legendary stories he left behind. And for El Paso, those memories aren't just something we watched on MTV, they happened right here!

Over the decades, Ozzy rolled into the Borderland more than once, bringing giant stages, blistering guitar solos and just enough madness to remind us why he became one of the greatest frontmen in rock history.

For generations of El Paso rock fans, those concerts became more than just nights out, they became stories we'll be telling for years to come.

Ozzy Osbourne Brought Heavy Metal History to El Paso

Long before everyone recorded concerts on their phones, seeing Ozzy Osbourne in El Paso was an event.

His first solo stop came in 1982 at the El Paso County Coliseum during the Diary of a Madman tour. He returned to the Coliseum again in 1986 for the Ultimate Sin Tour. The El Paso County Coliseum shared some photos of the ticket stubs for those shows, and the comments rolled in of people sharing their favorite memories!

Ozzy returned in 1992 to the UTEP Special Events Center for his No More Tears tour.

In 1996, Ozzy came back on the Retirement Sucks tour- a title that turned out to be pretty fitting considering he wasn't done rocking just yet.

His final El Paso performance came in 2001 on the Merry Mayhem tour with Rob Zombie at the Don Haskins Center. Even with a broken leg, Ozzy still bounced around the stage like only Ozzy could.

I've always been a huge Ozzy fan- not just because of the music, but because like so many millennials, I never missed an episode of The Osbournes.

So when the Merry Mayhem tour episode aired in 2002 and the Don Haskins Center popped up on my TV, I was beyond excited. There was Ozzy, right here in El Paso, with cameras following him every step of the way.

Even after breaking his leg, he refused to let it slow him down. Seeing our city featured on one of the biggest reality shows of the time made that concert feel even more special.

One year after Ozzy's passing, it's those nights at the Coliseum and the Don Haskins Center that many Borderland fans still remember. The music was loud, the crowds were electric, and Ozzy always brought exactly the kind of controlled chaos people came to see.

For me, he'll always be one of rock's greatest frontmen- and one of the funniest reality TV dads, too.

The Prince of Darkness may be gone, but every time "Crazy Train" comes on, it's hard not to think back to the nights he brought that unforgettable energy to El Paso.
