How Would Micah Parsons Do Against a Pro Sumo Wrestler?
This question is no longer a hypothetical. Micah Parsons, the Cowboys 6’3” 245 pound linebacker, got on the mat and mixed it up with a legit professional sumo wrestler.
How did Parsons, who is made of solid muscle, do? To be fair, he showed some promise. The other American you see in the video is the Houston Texans sensational rookie of the year quarterback C.J. Stroud.
Parsons and Stroud are on a tour of Asia together to promote the sport of football. It seems like they’re having a ball.
Along with some sumo, they both got to throw out the first pitches at a pro baseball game in Tokyo.
The trip, organized by the Gridiron Imports Foundation, is an initiative to teach American football.
It’s interesting to see a top athlete go up against another top athlete in a sport other than his own. Like that time Rocky wrestled Hulk Hogan aka Thunderlips in Rocky III.
So, to the untrained eye, this looks like a really fit guy fighting a fat, out of shape guy. Those sumo guys are NOT fat. They’re solid muscle with a slight candy coating. These guys train really hard to get that sumo body.
I like how CJ Stoud is loving seeing Parsons getting tossed around. But, I don’t see HIM getting onto the mat with any of the sumo guys.
I don’t know if American football will ever take of in Japan or China or South Korea. But I know they are getting two of the best the NFL has to offer, both as athletes and gentlemen.
I just had a thought: the NFL has had great soccer players who never played football become big time NFL punters and kickers. Just this year, the Buffalo Bills just selected a rugby player who’s never played a down of American football in his life.
Seriously, this rugby dude was the 221st pick overall. It makes me wonder…has anyone ever thought of teaching a Sumo wrestler how to play the offensive line? I mean, it’s all about power and quickness, which sumos have in spades. But it’s just as much about footwork and balance, another thing sumo wrestlers are experts in. Who knows? Maybe the Cowboys just need to make offers to a couple of sumos to go further than a wildcard game in the playoffs?
