The Largest Animals, Real And Fake, In Texas
As the old saying goes, everything is bigger in Texas. That is true with some animals native to the lone star state, some have even set world records.
Texas has some mighty big critters roaming, flying and swimming around in it. Crawling too, as well as slithering. One of the most deadly giants, a monster rattler, fortunately, isn't real.
In fact, several of the biggest beasts in Texas are fake but there are plenty of real ones too.
We have a bird that can weigh up to 30 pounds and has a 9 foot wingspan. (It's real.) One of our official state animals, the Texas Longhorn, can stand 5 feet tall, have an 11 foot "hornspan" and they can weigh up to 1,500 pounds. They can also be a little testy so, keep your distance.
We also have a pretty big snake that, fortunately, isn't venomous. Indigo snakes can hit 8 feet and are not only not venomous, they eat snakes that are. Keeping one around's not a bad idea if you live in snake country as they will totally have a rattlesnake for lunch.
Some Of Texas' Biggest Animals Are Fake
We've got a few giant animals in Texas though that are perfect for photos. They can't hurt you and will always pose nice and still for you because they're all fake.
- World's Largest Roadrunner is in Fort Stockton.
- World's Largest Jackrabbit is in Odessa.
- World's Largest Rattlesnake is in Freer.
There's also a big azz caterpillar in Italy, Texas. We also have a huge pecan and a great big screw while, about 80 miles from El Paso, Alamogordo has a giant pistachio.
