How Many Times Did Notre Dame & Oregon State Play the Sun Bowl

Yes it's official; the Notre Dame Fighting Irish will play the Oregon State Beavers in the 90th Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl game in El Paso, Texas on December 29th, 2023. We've seen some incredible games in the past & this isn't the first time we've seen each team play at the historic Sun Bowl. So in honor of both teams coming back to El Paso, let's look back on each teams past experiences at the Sun Bowl.

How many times has Oregon State play the Sun Bowl in El Paso?

The first time we saw Oregon State here in El Paso was during the 73rd Annual Brut Sun Bowl game on December 29th, 2006. It was a very close game but Oregon State would be able to score late in the game against Missouri to win 39-38.

The other time Oregon State was here was two years later; the 75th annual Sun Bowl game on December 31, 2006 to face off against Pittsburgh. The score...well it was very low but Oregon State would win, 3-0. Although more people know it as "the worst bowl game".

How many times has Notre Dame play the Sun Bowl in El Paso?

Notre Dame has only been here one time in the past, at the 77th annual Hyundai Sun Bowl on December 31, 2010. Notre Dame would take on Miami & win 33-17. You can find the whole game on YouTube here, but you can see the highlights from the Sun Bowl down below.

What I found interesting while doing this research, is that both teams have WON each time they've been here... but only one team will emerge victorious. We will see who it is on December 29th. May the best team win!
