What Are the Highest Scoring Games for the Houston Oilers/Texans?
The Dallas Cowboys aren't the only Texas team in the NFL; fans of football know that Houston has had two teams in the past: the Oilers & currently the Texans. Both teams have had a significant part of both NFL's history & Texas's history. Just like how we looked at the highest scoring games for the Cowboys, let's do the same for both the Oilers & the Texans.
The highest scoring game for the Houston Oilers
Since the Oilers were a team between 1960 to 1996 (and they relocated to Tennessee to become the Titans), we're only looking at those years for the Houston Oilers.
The highest scoring win for the Oilers came on December 9, 1990; they would play at home & beat the Cleveland Browns in Week 14, 58-16.
The highest scoring win for the Oilers on the road happened on November 5, 1961; the Oilers would travel to Denver to defeat the Broncos, 55-14.
The Oilers would suffer some high scoring losses however; both at the hands of the Cincinnati Bengals. The Bengals would score 61 points over the Oilers on December 17 in 1972 & 1989.
However the biggest loss for the Oilers occurred against the Oakland Raiders on December 22, 1963; the Raiders would win at home, 52-49. To this date it's tied for being the 4th highest scoring NFL game with a total of 101 points.
Despite the losses, the Oilers do currently have the highest scoring games for the team; the highest scoring for the Titans is 48.
Now let's look at the current Houston team, the Texans.
The highest scoring game for the Houston Texans
Currently, the highest scoring win for the Houston Texans occurred on October 1, 2017; the Texans would win 57-14 against...the Tennessee Titans. Perhaps as a statement saying the Texans are THE Houston team now.
The biggest win for the Texans on the road was against the Detroit Lions on November 26, 2020; the Texans would win 41-25.
So far the Texans biggest loss happened on the road against the Seattle Seahawks on October 29, 2017; the Seahawks would win 41-38.
Now of course we won't see the Oilers come back (unless the Titans bring throwback jerseys) but it's possible we could see the Texans score higher in the teams history. The Texans have been around since 1999 so they're still a fairly young NFL team so these stats could change in the near future. Until then, we shall see what happens...
