Why Do Great White Sharks Hate Texas?
The odds of being attacked by a shark along the Texas coast are pretty low and the odds of said shark being a Great White are even lower for one simple reason.
It's not that they can't find it after it was renamed the Gulf of America. (Or was it to the Gulf of Texas?) Either way, they know where it is and have no trouble at all getting there.
They just don't want to. Simply put, they ... unlike most all other living creatures ... don't like it there.
How anyone or anything could not like Texas is beyond me, the lone star state has got it all. You can experience just about any climate or culture here, as well as see some foreign landmarks without leaving the state.
Great white's though are picky bastards though and the waters off the Texas coast just don't have enough of the things they like to draw lots of them in. A few maybe but not many.
Other sharks are happy as can be here though and around 200 species or so proudly call Texas home. Yes, proudly. They must be proud, they're in Texas. Right?
Great White's are snobs. They avoid us because the Gulf Coast doesn't offer their preferred water temperature, preferred water depth, enough of their preferred prey and isn't exactly ideal for breeding. Even sharks need a little action now and then.
As far as all the other sharks go, you're odds of getting nipped by one of them are super low - 1 in 3.7 meeeeeelion. You can lessen the odds even more by not swimming at dusk or dawn
Although, honestly, you probably stand a better chance of getting zapped by a blue dragon, buried by killer sand or being bitten by one of our beach rattlesnakes.
