Road Wars: Can Texas Highways Compete with Mexico’s Highways
If you've driven in El Paso, Texas before, you already have your opinion on what you think of our roads. But for those who HAVEN'T driven through town may have gotten an interesting idea thanks to a viral video that compared our highways to the highways in Chihuahua, Mexico.
Here's the video about El Paso's roads vs Mexico's road & what people have been saying about it.
On the surface, the video doesn't really show too much difference; it shows a clip of a person driving on I-10 in El Paso, Texas (near downtown) and someone driving on the Mexican Federal Highway 16 in Chihuahua. The other difference is the song they chose for each place. Aside from that (and the fact the user put the wrong flag emoji for Texas), the video is pretty straight forward & you can see it for yourself.
What's very interesting about this video is the comment section on Facebook; some people have been VERY vocal on what they think about I-10 vs Highway 16:
"Don't compare. Paso Texas is horrible....The city of Chihuahua is beautiful both its modern and ancient and historic areas. And no, I'm not from Chihuahua, I'm from Juarez." - Eli Romo Sahira
"El Paso is a clean and safe city but I don't think the state of Texas as a whole has the beauty that Chihuahua offers. And I'm not saying it because it's from here but it's really beautiful, the sierra, its mountains, valleys, rivers, canyons, diversity of landscapes, the capital is beautiful, a territory worthy of admiration, just that they are not ready for this conversation, Mexico itself is a beautiful country." - Que Bonito es Uruachi
"Don't talk bad about the pass, because here they keep shopping and leave their mess and it's always all picked out. I'm from Chihuahua but I live in El Paso Tx. My second home, grateful with this city that is developing up there will be no comparison." - Alfredo Carrillo
"And why didn't they compare the two borders El Paso with Juarez? If you're going to compare the capital of Chihuahua compare with the capital of Texas which is Austin be like this if you see the big difference, and then don't stain the song they put in English nothing to see put a with Texas roots as a country style song or minimal TexMex." - Lili Ana
"Put I-10 at 5 p.m. on Friday" - Ness Flore
It's pretty obvious that it's very split between the two; people will defend El Paso or Chihuahua. There's no real clear cut winner, it's just a matter of preference, and whether you've been to both places.
I will say...this wouldn't be the first time El Paso roads/drivers have gone viral nor will it be the last.
