El Pasoans are mourning the loss of one iconic mountain goat, and many believe it's the fault of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Bob the Mountain Goat, who lived nestled in the Franklin Mountains along Transmountain Road, became famous when various El Pasoans reported seeing him on the mountains. Known for his chill demeanor, Bob quickly captured everyone's hearts and a Bob sighting was always met with a smile.

Unfortunately, a recent relocation effort gone wrong claimed the life of the majestic Bob- and now, many are upset with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department who were in charge of Bob's relocation.

The sad news was confirmed by TPWD and KTSM. Bob was in the process of being relocated to a local farm as TPWD wanted to minimize the risk of disease transmission as the state agency prepared to reintroduce historically native desert bighorn sheep in the Franklin Mountains in October.

Apparently, they had been attempting to capture Bob during the summer to no avail. Finally, Bob was "roped"- a “standard practice in the livestock industry,” but died during the relocation process, TPWD said.

This obviously did not sit well with social media users and now, TPWD is facing backlash as many believe had they not gotten involved, Bob would still be alive! One mourner wrote:

If this is true then Bob didn't die, he was killed in the process of being relocated. He survived all these years by himself but passed away as soon as people got involved.

Wildlife officials believe Bob was about nine years old- and could have lived another four years- but the risk of disease was too high to leave Bob in the Franklin Mountains. The desert bighorn sheep are still planned to be moved in November.

RIP Bob the Mountain Goat.
