Stunning Images from the Solar Eclipse in the El Paso Sky

The Ring of Fire solar eclipse happened this past weekend and El Paso was in a prime position to see it! It was a cool name for it and it was a pretty cool event that had many up early on Saturday morning to check it out- safely, of course.

The eclipse was quite the event- so much so that it had people lining up for hours for the free eclipse glasses at the public library!

From approximately 9:15 AM to 12:15 PM, many El Pasoans ventured outside to witness this spectacle- and shared some pretty cool photos in the process!

Robert Nashwich shared some images of the eclipse On Twitter/X  and all I could think about is the Johnny Cash song, "and it burns, burns, burns, the ring of fire!"

This particular eclipse occurs when the moon passes in front of the sun, partially blocking its radiant face, leaving a luminous ring, or "ring of fire," around the edges.

But many looking up to the sky with proper eyewear weren't the only ones who got to see some cool images; if you looked down you were also treated to some pretty cool shadows.

The crescent shaped shadows were basically projections of the sun but they were sure fun and mesmerizing to look at!

If you missed out on this eclipse, don't worry! The New York Times says that next year's solar eclipse, on April 8, 2024, will also be viewable in the United States as well as Mexico and Canada, they're calling this one the Great North American Eclipse.
