El Paso Fireworks Are Still Keeping People Awake

The Fourth of July may officially be over, but if you've been hearing random booms around your neighborhood every evening, you'd be forgiven for thinking the holiday is still going strong!

At this point, I've stopped looking outside every time I hear one.

Don't get me wrong, I love fireworks as much as the next person. I just didn't expect we'd still be hearing them this long after Independence Day, and I know I can't be the only one.

The Fourth Of July Is Still Going Strong in El Paso

I honestly don't know who still has fireworks left at this point, but I'm almost impressed.

I'm convinced someone bought the Costco-sized pack and made it their personal mission to use every single one before calling it a summer!

Every night, another random boom echoes through the neighborhood. I'll pause for a second, realize it's just another firework and go right back to what I was doing. I guess we're all getting a few bonus days of Fourth of July this year.

El Paso Pets Are Still Feeling the Effects

Thankfully, my dogs don’t care. My cat, however, still looks personally offended every time another firework goes off.

As funny as that is, not every pet handles fireworks so well.

After the Fourth of July, El Paso Animal Services took in at least 300 pets that became separated from their families after fireworks frightened them and caused them to run away.

It's a good reminder to make sure pets have updated ID tags or microchips and to keep them indoors if fireworks are still popping off around your neighborhood!

A Friendly Reminder About Fireworks in El Paso

It's also worth remembering that fireworks are illegal within El Paso city limits- selling, possessing or using fireworks can result in a Class C misdemeanor and fines of up to $500! The city also reminds residents that fireworks increase the risk of fires, injuries and frightened pets.

Maybe tonight will finally be the last night. Then again, if my neighborhood is any indication, someone still has a few fireworks left.
