Late-Night Legends: El Paso Musicians On National TV
Remember when we had some musical legends from El Paso, Texas appear on late night television? It HAS happened many times. Jimmy Kimmel, Jimmy Fallon, even the legendary David Letterman has all welcomed various El Paso artists on their shows in the past. The first one, was The Late Show With David Letterman.
At the Drive-In was the first El Paso artist to appear on The Late Show with David Letterman
On December 15, 2000, just 3 months after the band released their Relationship of Command album, At the Drive-In would be invited on David's show to perform their biggest hit from that record, One-Armed Scissor. This would actually be 2 months AFTER they played the song on Conan O Brien's show on Halloween earlier that same year.
Sparta would be the next El Paso artist to appear on David Letterman
4 years after that performance, Jim Ward would return onto the show but his other band, Sparta. After they released Porcelain, the band would be invited to perform on David's show in 2004 & they would play "Breaking the Broken".
And the last El Paso artist to appear on David Letterman was The Mars Volta
Yes we finally came to The Mars Volta appeared for the first time on national television; January 17, 2008 on The Late Show with David Letterman. Just 2 weeks before releasing The Beldam in Goliath, the band would play "Wax Simulacra". That same song would later win a Grammy in 2009 for Best Hard Rock Performance.
El Paso's Khalid has been on many television shows as well
That wouldn't be the last time an El Paso artist would appear on a talk show; Khalid has certainly appeared on many during his career. He would appear on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon. Even Ellen wanted Khalid to appear on her show.
Jimmy Kimmel even welcomed Cigarettes After Sex on his show
On July 10th, El Paso's own Cigarettes After Sex performed their song "Tejano Blue" for Jimmy Kimmel Live. While it's not "late night", that's still a big deal to be featured on the JIMMY KIMMEL show.
